Kip Moore
I spent last Saturday night at a Kip Moore concert. I am more Slowheart than Wild One. It was an amazing all-around experience, and not just because I had really, really good tickets. There is a genuine connection with his fans and he has a way of making you feel as if you’re the only one in a sea of thousands. I sang every word to every song and danced so much my Fitbit thought I did an aerobic workout. What I took away was so much more than a few calories burned and a meet and greet photo.
Firstly, if I can write a book half as well as he writes a song, I’m golden. There was a moment as I stood against the stage and watched as he looked out to his fans. I thought, regardless if I ever get an agent or get a book published, I will write because I love it and I’m passionate about it. I will be true to myself and write what I believe in, weather anyone else sees the beauty in it or not. If I am lucky enough to get published in this highly selective field, I will give everything in me to my fans. I know being a musician is different from being an author. To me, the statement is the same regardless of what you do in life. Be true to who you are, and don’t let anyone make you into something you’re not.
There are days where I question myself and if this dream can become a reality. I’m sure I’m not alone in that uncertainty. Other days I can see my name on the Best Seller list and a contract for a limited series. I can see the big and the small in my dreams. The endless lonely nights as I pour words onto a page or stare longingly at the screen. The blood, sweat and tears when I work so hard, yet no one can see my vision. The “I just didn’t love the writing” becomes “I love the writing.” Through all of it, I will remember why I do what I do and trust that the path I am supposed to walk will be laid in front of me when I’m ready.
Until then I will “have Strength when I’m Standing and Faith when I Fall” and keep Kip’s records on repeat. If you by chance do not know who his is, please do yourself a favor and find him on YouTube. Seriously – You have no idea what you’re missing.
